Summary

Legendary money manager Peter Lynch explains his own strategies for investing and offers advice for how to pick stocks and mutual funds to assemble a successful investment portfolio。

Develop a Winning Investment Strategy—with Expert Advice from “The Nation’s #1 Money Manager。” Peter Lynch’s “invest in what you know” strategy has made him a household name with investors both big and small。

An important key to investing, Lynch says, is to remember that stocks are not lottery tickets。 There’s a company behind every stock and a reason companies—and their stocks—perform the way they do。 In this book, Peter Lynch shows you how you can become an expert in a company and how you can build a profitable investment portfolio, based on your own experience and insights and on straightforward do-it-yourself research。

In Beating the Street, Lynch for the first time explains how to devise a mutual fund strategy, shows his step-by-step strategies for picking stock, and describes how the individual investor can improve his or her investment performance to rival that of the experts。

There’s no reason the individual investor can’t match wits with the experts, and this book will show you how。

I really like Mr Lynch’s writing style。 Smart and humorous yet straight to the point。 He explains his investing style and why he does what he does。 A lot to learn from that。 The book drags a bit towards the end which is why I took off a star otherwise it’s a 5/5。

Enjoyed the concept of stocks over bonds。 However, I rather increase my income rather than focus on lightly beating the S&P 500。

As a stockpicker, you can’t assume anything。 You’ve got to follow the stories。 You are trying to get answers to two basic questions: (1) is the stock still attractively priced relative to earnings。(2) what is happening in the company to make the earnings go up? Here you can reach one of three conclusions: (1) the story has gotten better, in which case you might want to increase your investment。(2) the story has gotten worse, in which case you can decrease your investment。 (3) the story’s unchang As a stockpicker, you can’t assume anything。 You’ve got to follow the stories。 You are trying to get answers to two basic questions: (1) is the stock still attractively priced relative to earnings。(2) what is happening in the company to make the earnings go up? This book is very US stock specific unlike the earlier book (One Up On Wall Street: How to Use What You Already Know to Make Money in the Market) which focused on industry wise tactics besides the basics of investing。 With the book set in early 90s, reading it in 2022 made some parts of the book completely irrelevant and considering I am not from the US, the understanding of the companies mentioned in the book became difficult。 One can skim through the book to understand the though process that This book is very US stock specific unlike the earlier book (One Up On Wall Street: How to Use What You Already Know to Make Money in the Market) which focused on industry wise tactics besides the basics of investing。 With the book set in early 90s, reading it in 2022 made some parts of the book completely irrelevant and considering I am not from the US, the understanding of the companies mentioned in the book became difficult。 One can skim through the book to understand the though process that Peter Lynch has applied。 I would recommend this book to people who are big time into investing。 。。。more

This was ok I guess。 Not a life changer。 Interesting to learn about investing in a time before being able to look at stock prices every minute。

The last of my exploration of Peter Lynch books。 This was also excellent。 Many "Peter Principles" for investing that are worth taking note of。 Of course, some of the examples are dated, as he opines for Kmart to buy Pier 1 (double yikes) but the strategic underpinnings are more often than not still valuable today。 The last of my exploration of Peter Lynch books。 This was also excellent。 Many "Peter Principles" for investing that are worth taking note of。 Of course, some of the examples are dated, as he opines for Kmart to buy Pier 1 (double yikes) but the strategic underpinnings are more often than not still valuable today。 。。。more

Clear, actionable and easy to understand advice from the most famous stock picker of the last couple of decades。 A great book to read for every retail investor out there who wants to broaden their understanding of markets。 For people with only a passing interest in markets, it will be a somewhat dull read。

First half of the book is great。 A lot of good advice and investing principles。 Second half seems outdated by looking at industry patterns and companies。

This book is more anecdotal than teaching how to invest。 Peter describes his protfolio in detail and also indicates for each company why the investmet was a good idea。 I would have liked to read how he picks these stock。 Too much companies and details lead to not seeing the forest, but only trees。

One up wallstreet is a better work by Peter Lynch。 Just read the last chapter to get the 25 nuggets spread through the book in case studies。

El libro de un paso por delante de Wall Street me gustó bastante。 Batiendo a WS me ha parecido bastante más aburrido y repetitivo。

Insightful read that conveys the rationale to be adopted for beating market returns by keeping a margin of safety inorder to safeguard the principal while accounting for inflation。

Finance books can be dry, but Peter Lynch made this one quite enjoyable。 The biggest negative to this book is it's age, and large technical parts of it are somewhat difficult to follow, because it talks about companies as they were 20 years ago。 Other than that, I guess the advice is mostly timeless, and there's are interesting trivia/stories mixed in-between。 Finance books can be dry, but Peter Lynch made this one quite enjoyable。 The biggest negative to this book is it's age, and large technical parts of it are somewhat difficult to follow, because it talks about companies as they were 20 years ago。 Other than that, I guess the advice is mostly timeless, and there's are interesting trivia/stories mixed in-between。 。。。more

The third of Peter Lynch's books that i have so far listened to - as an audio book - and i can't help being surprised by his simple formula of finding, understanding and investing in quality businesses。 There is nearly a perfunctory and workman like attitude to the understanding of a business and how it sits within the economic environment。 There is also the unwritten rule that he is willing to back himself all the way because he has such a strong hold on the fundamentals。 The use of case studi The third of Peter Lynch's books that i have so far listened to - as an audio book - and i can't help being surprised by his simple formula of finding, understanding and investing in quality businesses。 There is nearly a perfunctory and workman like attitude to the understanding of a business and how it sits within the economic environment。 There is also the unwritten rule that he is willing to back himself all the way because he has such a strong hold on the fundamentals。 The use of case studies and real examples of how and why he invested into specific companies is interesting and enlightening and has opened up my perspective and supplied me with renewed momentum for having a better understanding of the companies and their core structures, which inhabit my portfolio。 The more i have listened to Peter's advice the more I believe I am on the right track with my investments, because i am looking at long term investments with long term companies, and happy to take a steady yield rather than be emotionally disenfranchised by the never-ending see-saw motion of a turbulent stock in an illogical market。 My only complaint is that i don't have the amount of money that would be nice to have follow through on Peter Lynch's homestyle investment recipes。 The case studies that he shares are detailed and extend over long periods of time, and what surprised but should not have, was his use of journal/s on companies。 This is where he has taken notes on the various subject matters that consist and involve of maintain his thoughts, facts, understandings, notes and i strongly suspect predictions concerning individual companies。 The way he describes his journals reminded me of a captain's log or the notes a journalists makes before writing a book。 I have become an intrigued by Peter Lynch, and i have a new found respect for him; just as much as i have for Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger。 They might be money men at their core but they act like good farmers who want to ensure that the effort they invest has long term productivity and a real value that can be maintained, retained and shared with other people and the generations to come。Read all three of these great books and enjoy them for the wholesome value they have to offer- but don't be like me and read them in the wrong order。 There is great value and life lessons in each of these books which will reap rewards for a long time to come, if you are diligent, patient and willing to do the fundamental ground work that Peter Lynch consistently reinforces。 。。。more
